National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA)

The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) certifies an auricular (ear) acupuncture protocol to assist with nicotine, drug & alcohol abstinence. A no-nonsense, non-verbal, no-drug pharmaceutical-free & barrier-free approach to behavioral health.

Lincoln Hospital (Bronx, NY) was the first to eliminate the use of pharmaceuticals during in-patient acute detoxification when the NADA protocol was made available on-demand 24-hours a day. The protocol now benefits alcohol & drug, and harm reduction programs even when not available on-demand. The treatment of these 5 ear points within a social service or healthcare setting is called AcuDetox.

Lori Kelsey RN-BSN DOM completed the AcuDetox internship at Healthcare for the Homeless,MATS, and La Plazita Institute in Albuquerque, NM, under the supervision of Public Health Acupuncture of New Mexico.

In 2016 the New Mexico Acupuncture Board and the Department of Transportation - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) granted approval for DOMs to train & certify to perform DOT physical exam screening. I recieved her training through DOT Health Systems (Occupational Healthcare).

The benefits of being a designated Acupuncture Physician Network Provider is that in addition to the DOT exam and referring pateints to Primary Care Provider follow-up as needed, I can provide holistic, non-drug & Functional Medicine wellness plans, patient teaching to resolve certain conditions that might otherwise result in non recertification/ delayed recertification if left unaddressed (e.g. pre hypertension and stage 1 hypertension, pre diabetes etc.].

Functional Medicine Practitioner®

In progress from Functional Medicine University. I am seeking this certification because as a nurse (and especially as a home health nurse) I see pateint self-treating with over he counter herbs, and supplements without prper consultation or advice. Many pateint are wasting their time and money at the very least. In general pateints do not realize there is great and complex science behind the proper use of quality supplments. Functional medicne certification means I can advice pateint for better self care and wellness.
